Specifically designed for use by the special lunar terrain vehicles (LTVs), lunar surface tracks are roadways connecting Eden to the other domes and facilities. The surface of the tracks is coated with a metallic material that allows an LTV equipped with a magnetic force generator to firmly grip the
roads. This was a system developed to enable the vehicles to operate efficiently on the moon where the gravity is only 1/6 of that on Earth. Since sufficient road surface friction cannot be generated due to the moon’s light gravitational pull, the
magnetically generated artificial gravity assists in ensuring the stability of LTVs traveling on the lunar surface tracks. Also, when coming to a stop, raising the magnetic force serves to boost the braking capacity of an LTV.
LTVs are structurally incapable of traveling over surfaces other than these lunar tracks. Hence, even though an LTV’s exterior resembles a car or a motorcycle, its inability to travel anywhere other than on fixed roadways means that they are no different than a train or monorail.
