Bandai Entertainment Inc. announces new acqusitions at Otokon: Code Geass, Toward the Terra, My-OTOME Zwei, Ayakashi Ayashi to arrive in 08
July 23, 2007 (Cypress, Ca) Bandai Entertainment Inc. returned to Otakon this weekend and as promised earlier in the month, the company’s representatives, President Ken Iyadomi and Director of Sales and Marketing Robert Napton, brought some new acquisition announcements with them:
Bandai Entertainment Inc. will release one of the most highly anticipated anime series of 08, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, from animation studio Sunrise and a story by Goro Taniguchi (s-CRY-ed, Planetes) and Ichiro Okouchi and character designs by the legendary CLAMP. The story is a military drama with intricate plot lines and robotic action about the character Lelouch and his journey to overthrow a totalitarian regime that has invaded Japan. The series will be dubbed by ZRO Limit Productions and a TV broadcast in 2008 has been set, with the details to be announced at a later time.
Next is Ayakashi Ayashi, from animation studio BONES (Cowboy Bebop-the Movie, Wolf’s Rain, Eureka Seven), a supernatural adventure set in feudal Japan about the battle to defeat creatures called Youi. The series features character designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop, Wolf’s Rain).
Another new title from Bandai Entertainment Inc. will be Toward the Terra, a science fiction anime with character designs by Nobuteru Yuki of Escaflowne and Record of Lodoss War. The story centers on evolved humans called Mu who must flee persecution and believe their sanctuary lies on their abandoned mother world, the planet Terra.
My-Otome Zwei was also announced at Otakon, a 4 volume OAV series that picks up one year after the My-Otome television series which just saw release this month from Bandai Entertainment Inc. and is itself a re-imagining of the popular television series My-Hime.
Similarly, Bandai Entertainment Inc. confirmed their plan to release Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: Final Plus, a reworking of the final episode of Gundam Seed Destiny, will be released as a stand alone DVD in ‘08.
Earlier in the weekend at Otakon, at a focus panel for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya with voice actress Stephanie Sheh, Bandai Entertainment Inc. and Kadokawa Pictures USA announced that Vol. 4 of the North American release English versions of the popular songs God Knows and Lost My Music will be recorded by Haruhi’s voice actress Wendee Lee. The original songs performed by Aya Hirano will be featured on the Japanese language audio track with English subtitles.
